Well the Hildays have come and gone. I really wasn't withit this year. Christmas was a yes & no with me as far as deco's and spirit. I some how muddeled thru it and the best part was being with my son and his family. My family has lost a few members and this is what made Xmas a little sad for me. It's not the same when you lose loved ones, especially children.

It's going on to 4 mos. here in Kaaawa. All setteled in and still getting used to my new digs. I can't say it's better in so many ways accept for the fact, that it sure is a whole lot of quieter. I geuss the town houses are diff. that an apt bldg. I can't say I don't miss the other place because I do a little. I geuss it had more people action living in the mainstream. Still I was mostly alone as living here. I'm grateful to be able to live alone & support myself...

Most days I do fine and then comes emotional days when you get to thinking so much being alone most of the time. Mind you I like living alone. I wouldn't have it any other way. I geuss I have a 70th b'day comming up, wondering what happened to all my yrs of youth. I look at my Son's pic. and all of a sudden I burst into tears missing him so. Sometimes I just have a pity party by myself. I geuss we're all entitled to have this. Then I just pick myself up and move on being so grateful for being me, having a family I love, and living a very good life. Then life becomes okay once more. It's the strenght of the Lord and His Love for you that makes you grateful to go on....

yesterday I made up my mind not to go to church, whis is something I do weekly. I was tired & lazy. I tried talking myself with "you Know Who?" in not going. I read the days reading and still couldn't convince myself that it was okay. Off I went and spent 4 hrs, with friends and enjoyed the Bazaar and celebration of the mass so much. How I luv to shop. As long as I have a few bucks I'll go. I hadn't been to Ala Moana Center for so long, I was there on Fri. with a friend previewing, and returned on Sunday to purchase. Sometimes you really need to think things out before you buy, and that I did. We sometimes go to the center just to eat. There are over a hundred places to eat at. We even bring home food. I always go to "Shirokiya" for their bento's. Yesterday we went to Islands for "Pupu's" and Mojitos. It was really nice shopping and lunching with a friend. I brought two lg bento's home which I will be consuming for two dinners.

I'm sad to say this house is not sold as yet. The buyers asked for a second extension on the home buying. It is so disappointing when your waiting for the sale on a given date, and then it delays again. Patience is not one of my virtues. I'm sure going to have to put it to the test. One of life's lessons I guess.

Christmas eve. How did it come upon us so quickly. I haven't gone thru any of the stress this year with all the christmas shopping, rushing buying and everything that goes on in our materialistic world. I don't shop like I used to. I give family gifts where the whole family could enjoy together from me. Instead I have pondered on things of the heart. More important to me. This is the fastest Xmas I've felt. I guess it's because I am not as much in the spirit of things. I luv the season, but being retired and not in the mist of all the shoppers etc. it has been different. I don't do much shopping outside of family gifts now. I guess there comes a time like this for everyone. Did yrs of it. It's much more fun when the family was all together and the kids were all younger. Still I enjoy in a different way now. I still cook the traditiona "Vihna Dol's" (pickled pork) breakfast with potatoes etc. for our Xmas morning breakfast. Traditions are kept and go on. My girls still do it also. It's amazing how fast time comes and goes. I was once wondering at 16 yrs old who I would be married too and what my life would be like. I can pic. the moment, sitting with my best friends Connie & Carmela just wondering where we would be and with whom. Today I'm in my really late 60's Carmella passed on along with her husband leaving three kids and grandchildren. Connie is retired and still being the housewife and grandmother. I am now divorced 20 yrs and practically living alone most of the time. My kids are in Seattle, Maui and here, tho I hardly get to be with them. I'm not complaning mind you. I have a good life I'm independant both financially, spritualy, and enjoy being this way. It's just that the years come and go to fast and you loose time with your family because of all the busy lives everyone lives. Still I make the best of everything that life gives you. I've lost a tremendous part of my life when I lost my son John. I will never get over that until my day comes when I go to meet him. Still you live on.....tho there is a tiny space of loneliness and saddness that never leaves your heart....

I used to be a pretty good cook in the days. Now that my family is all on their own, cooking has just about ceased for me. It's frozen and fast food times now. It just dosen't make sense to cook for one. No more soups, stews, meats as in roasts, chops, ribs etc. Now it's "Saimin, Pizza's and Sandwiches". The only meats I ever do is chicken and hamburger and even that is bought cooked already. I'm not compalining mind you because I did it all before. I luv, ethnic dishes and that's about all that I cook now days when I desire it.

Boy, did I luck out on this best buy. I went on line to see if I could find some dressers and sure got a deal. I also had it delivered with a small fee to me. I was going to go to buy me a new dresser this "Labor Day" weekend sale when I went on line instead and found these four pieces of used furniture for less than $400. It is totally beautiful, and I have more drawers that I can possible use. "Hooray".

Hawaii consists of many different culturals amd lifstyles so we partake in so many different types of foods. Hawaiian, Filipino, Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, Samoan, Tongan, Mexican , Italian. Thai, Vietnamese, Puertorican etc. We learn to cook a lot of the different foods also, especially the one we love. Well I've always loved "Chicken Longrice," that is always a part of our "Luau" menu, even tho the long rice is an asian product. Well for the first time in my life I finally learned and cooked this popular dish. "Ummm Ono Licious" like we would say in Hawaii.

Still waiting on my move to a new apt. It's fine tho that way I will be totally prepped when the time comes. It's a lot to do. It'll all be woth it when I do get there in 3 weeks. I'm very anal about things, and would rather do things myself as to get it done to the way I would like it to be. Actually I'm prepping the one I'll be leaving also since I'm leaving a lot back that will be going to the new tenant. Oh but to have more space. In the mean time I'm still going thru construction, deco-shell art etc. I've gotten rid of a lot of things, giving it all away. There are so much people in need. Today I'll be going to the movie just out, " Princess Kauialani" I try to plan my days all into one with the price of gas getting higher each time. That's also called "living on a fixed income". I'm happy to have one.

I'm half way into major construction in my apt. bldg. and waiting to move to a one bedroom apt in the same bldg. I feel like I'm dangling in mid air waiting on two different things to happen. Trying to avoid one and get into another. Sure keeps me busy prepping for two different segments. Construction consist of pushing in our windows 4 1/2feet into a very small studio. Had to give up lots of things to do this. All in all I am still enjoying my new car and the beach and doing what I do. Still loving retirement after 1 yr.

I have a friend whom I get along with real well, Except!! she tells to many false stories. I never knew her to be that way before untill now. She never says what she's told me before because she's not good at remembering what was said before. I don't say much but it bridges a gap in our friendship. We all are fibbers once in awhile but not constantly. The fact of the matter is tho we will continue the friendship, the trust is no longer there and it's dissapointing. But then again who am I to judge..

One year into retirement and still loving it. I luv my newfound crafting, and am expanding it into different avenues. The hardest thing for me to do is slow down and stop trying to do everything all at once. I geuss th 25 or more yrs. of always being on a time schedlule is really hard to break. I'm working at it. I've just returned from a trip to Maui, being there for my sons 1 yr. anniversary of his death. It was very nostalgic. The memories of the last days with him comes back when I reach Maui. We had a lovely time with the family there, marking his 1st yr. I wish one day all the brothers and sisters can be there together for once. Upon leaving Maui the tears just started to flow for John.

I always say "I Am My Biggest Fan". I am working on my 4th deco-shell wreath right now. I hang them up when I'm done and as I'm watching T .V, I glance at them and I see where I need to add or minus shells. Creativity is always on my mind. Today I re-did three wreaths to where I thought they should be and I am very pleased with them now. Only the person who creates, know when it is completed. Creating these shell crafts is my passion along with photography. They go hand in hand for me. When I feel irritable, impatient, troubled etc. I start on my crafts And I just loose myself in it.

Spent a day in "Waikiki", with a cousin, something Islanders almost never do. It's pretty much left to the tourist. Had a great time doing what the tourist enjoy. We go to our favorite beaches where it's not so crowded. Enjoyed strolling "Kalakaua Ave". Took a pic with the "Duke". (Island champion surfer, Duke Kahanamoku.) The hotels are amazingly beautiful to look at and relax with a cocktail or two.

I am happily waiting to move to a one bedroom apt I have been wanting. I live in a studio, which I have outgrown because of my crafts. Let me tell you how it came about. "Prayer", I have been asking the Lord to find me a place here that I could afford. We've had many for rent all more then I could pay. I even expressed how people should lower the rent, and let someone who will take care of their place move in. Well they rather hold out and keep them empty. So I finally conceded to stay put and just be grateful. The very next day a neighbor comes over to me and tells me she was moving in June and if I knew anyone looking for a 1 bedroom apt. I told her yes me. She talked with her owner who said okay to me, at a very affordable rent and it's a fully furnished one at that.. I was so happy, then she told me the Lord prompted her to go and talk to me. And she did just that. God is so patient with us when we accept his ways.

Today is a tag along day with a goodfriend who is off of work for the week (Spring break) My friend Sundra has moved back to our apt. bldg. last month. We have been hanging together. We didn't hang for a couple of years, when we both moved our seperate ways, and now we both ret. to the same bldg. It's nice having a friend you can spend time with. We pretty much enjoy the same things. I haven't been working on my crafts this week. Taking a break to restore and produce my creations. My mind continues to create the next one. I really luv "Kamiano" the hawaiian word for "Damion" I named it after our dear St. because he is my hero from "Molokai."

Okay, it's been far and in between my writting here. I'm still busy as a bee doing what must be done and not doing anything. I did buy a new car that I am justas happy as a Lark to have. I'm washing it all the time: Iwonder how long this will last? I feel good about really spending on myself for I think I really deserve this gift I've worked for. No more worrying about car repairs for a while. My Toyota was good to me while I had it, so I really just wanted something new, and I got it. Yes!!!

Wow I haven't been here forever. It's been a real busy time for me. We are having major construction on our bldg. Tsunami evacuations, helping a friend move in, a death in the family, I completely forgot about my Blogger. So here I am. I've finnished two more deco-mirrors which came out just beautiful. More "artsy" looking. Oh and yes before i forget I am the proud owner of a brand new "2010 Nissan Altima". I actualy traded in my 2002 Toyota all by myself and I am very proud of that. You really can't depend on anyone now days on anything. They are always saying call me, I'ed be glad to help. But when you do you see or feel the vibes. And that 's on anything you ask. It's good for me tho because it makes me more independent on me and Jesus.

The past coupleof days has been really low key weather. It's how amazing how the weather can affect your mood. I have decided to remove negative people a little out of my life. When I retired I left a lot of stress behind. Now they are starting to reserface in my life again. Neighbors, friends, and relatives. They can stress you out by pulling you down and irritating the hell out of you. So instead of letting this happen ,so called friends will be eliminated and relatives will be curtailed to a minimum. Mind you I luv my relatives but I can't take the black cloud of doom hovering over them.

It is back to the dentist time. I can't believe I am having problems with my teeth after I had it all done less than 6 mos. ago. I am not very happy of this predictament. Maybe I should count my blessings. It will remove the pain and leave me with just a huge bill to pay, with no dental coverage at all. Pain verses thr bill? I'll have to take the bill. Well I'm definetly into shell art. I have found a wonderful resource store right here in my own back yard. The last place I choose to look. Stupid? I'ed like t o think not. It is never advertised here, or even mentioned. After months of shopping and getting the same shells from the same touristy stores I finally went back on line and clicked HAWAII. I was on line with all the mainland stores that cost as much to ship as to what you buy. There it was in my own back yard with every kind of shell you want at wholesale prices. Unbelievable!!!! I'm a happy person now.

Well It's been for ever scince I last wrote. I have been busy with the Holdays, which was low-key bit okay, Didn't feel up to doing all the traditional things I used to. The only thing i kept up with was the "Christmas Vhina Dols Breakfast". I'm satisfied with that. I have branched out with my "Deco Shell Crafts". I'm not only doing mirrors and frames, but I'm also doing "Deco Shell Candle " holders, right out of the ocean. Here, take a look.

It's out with the old, and in with the new. The old year holds a lot of sad memories for me and my family with our loss of John. We have the good memories also of John to hold onto. It was the hardest heart rendering ever in my life. I'm not sure I except what has happened. We'll have to deal with our emotions for as long as it takes. With me it will be the rest of my life. I'll try to look at the new year as a new beginning, and hold on to all my memories of a lost son. I will keep him in my life and my everyday living.., never putting him aside for a moment. He lives thru his children as we look at them tho not as much as we would like to. He lives thru all of us in a very special way never to be forgotten ever.

Christmas has ended. We all spent a quiet Xmas this year, reflecting on the past events. Mostly on John, whom we lost to cancer in April. The Holiday spirit was there tho it wasn't as joyful. Sadness and reflection was very prominent, tho still we go on for each other. People always say it's the first year of your loss. I feel it's the rest of my life of our loss. I know time heals, tho never completely. I carry on everyday thru faith with my memories of a lost son, who was deeply loved and will always be. We will cherich all our memories forever of a loving and brave son, brother , nephew, grandchild, cousin, uncle, friend and HUSBAND & FATHER.

I'm trying to make the best of this holiday. Tho familywise we are all seperated for one reason or the other, that's the way it is. Most of our family members are all in the same boat. No one gets together even those that could, anymore. That's the sad part. Actually if it wasn't for my grandchildren here, I would probably stay home too. But I also have a lot to be thankful for, for this I celebrate. My sadness is missing my son, but that's a every day thing that seems to be harder on the holidays. I feel sad for all my family because of this. I am also thankful to the Lord for all he has done for us too. So I will celebrate the holiday.

Yesterday I was at our yearly "Christmas Parade in Kaneohe". Every yeas it grows bigger and better. I have been going from the early "50's". It's a tradition. I completed my shopping list wrapping paper, name tags and all. First time I ever did that. I geuss it's because I have downsized my list to family gifts. Useful family gifts. I boutght what the families coul use instead of pricey unsed gifts. Now I have the time to enjoy Christmas with the music decorations and just being in the spirit of things. Maybe I'll even buy the things I hsve been wanting.

Why is it when you get ready to go somewhere, theres no where to go? I usually go ove to my friends on Fri. to have cocktails and pupu's. I made my pupu's to take over and waited for the call. None was to be had. I am not angry or anything because it happens. I just had myself set up mind, body, food and drinks so it's a letdown to stay home instead. Oh well that's life. I see it as it was not meant to be...

Decorating for xmas is so exciting. Thru the yrs you go from bright and glitzy, childrens themes, santas ,teddy bears, angels, candyland, I think most of us has done it all. Then you go for the more suttle, simple and elegant in your older yrs. None the less it always lifts my spirits to decorate and play Xmas music. You should always remember to enjoy the holidays as it should be, and surround youself with the joy of it. Give simple gifts and not be concerned about how much to spend on any one gift. Give meaningful gifts from the heart...

This morning as I was walking back from "The Ponds" which is where I excercise each morn, a Fire Truck came past me with the sirens blaring as it drove up to"The Ponds" which is an assisted living home for seniors in need of caring. An overwhelming sense of sadness enveloped me and tears began to well up in me as I started praying for that person who was in need of help. It was so instant that I felt very sad. Partly because it brought memories of my son and also of the many people there that must feel so alone at times. I am glad that I can feel the compassion even for a stranger....

I have been doing a lot of thinking lately, my family, life as where do I go from here. How can I go forward with my life. Well I know decisions have to be made and dealt with, and for me that's the hardest thing to do. It has to feel right somehow. Maybe i should relax more and go with life as to where it takes me instead of decisions on changes. I know I need to put my priorities first as to what I want need or don't need. I guess this is a recent retiree way of thinking. I believe it'll come.
